Isaac Torres

Hi! My name is Isaac (he/him/his) I’m an academic advisor, farmer, and educator. In just about all my roles on campus my goal is to help students find paths that connect their education to their values, communities, and the lives they want to build. I mainly advise for Applied Fire Science, Forestry, and Environmental Science & Management, but throughout the year I work with students from many different disciplines to support them towards academic success, recovery, exploration, and more. 

Outside of advising, I teach in Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies and spend time getting my hands in the soil at Cal Poly Humboldt’s farm. One of my most current passion projects is working alongside Dr. Renée Byrd in support of the Ecotone Center for Land-Based Healing + Transformative Justice and emerging work in Critical Agriculture Studies & Agroecology—work that brings together land, food, healing, justice, and community while asking critical questions about power and our relationships with one another and the more-than-human world.

When I’m not advising, teaching, or farming, I’m usually finding another way to move my body. I’m a runner who recently completed my first half marathon and now have my sights set on a triathlon. I am also an aerialist and I love spinning in the air on a lyra (aerial hoop).

I’m always happy to connect. I believe education is about more than checking boxes toward a degree—it can also be a way of discovering what matters to you and how you want to move through the world.
