Geneviève Marchand
Professor
Dr. Geneviève (Gen) Marchand is a Professor of Recreation Administration and coordinator of the Outdoor Recreation pathway and Outdoor Assistantship. Her work centers on expanding access to outdoor experiences and strengthening the outdoor recreation workforce and economy.
She holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Minnesota, an MBA from Cal Poly Humboldt, a Master’s in Kinesiology from CSU Chico, and a degree in Outdoor Adventure and Tourism from Université du Québec à Chicoutimi.
Her research focuses on outdoor leadership, workforce development, and the impact of collegiate outdoor programs on leadership development, environmental attitudes, and well-being. She previously served as Chair of the Research Committee and as a Board Member for the Association for Outdoor Recreation and Education.
She is a Leave No Trace Master Educator, Wilderness First Responder, Level 2 ACA Kayak Instructor, and certified Wilderness Education Association Outdoor Educator.
Research:
Her main research areas include access, environmental attitude and place attachment in outdoor recreation, and employee turnover and job satisfaction in wilderness therapy.
