Canvas Roles and Permissions

Role	Description
Teacher	For instructors who need full access to Canvas.
Librarian	For librarians who are responsible for instruction. See Course Permissions table for description of Librarian Canvas permissions.
TA	For teaching assistants without the permission to edit grades.
TA (with grade edit rights)	For assistant instructors and teaching assistants with the permission to edit grades.
Designer	For instructional designers and their support staff who design course content/layout, but do not instruct courses nor edit grades.
Media/ATI Specialist	For media and Accessibility specialists to provide support files and video links within Canvas courses.
Advisor	For advisors who need to view course content and users, but cannot edit course content or grades.
Student	For students who are only officially enrolled in the course.
Observer	For users who have no official role in the course. Observers can only view course content and discussion forums; they cannot participate in the course nor edit course content.
