Student Opportunities Engagement Hub

The Cal Poly Humboldt Engagement Hub is a one-stop online platform for the campus community to find and apply for internal funding opportunities like grants, awards, and stipends. It serves as a central repository for funding opportunities from various departments, which were previously scattered and hard to find. Accessible through the MyHumboldt portal, the Engagement Hub simplifies the process for faculty, staff, and students to discover and apply for funding.

When you enter the website, make sure to filter your search by selecting "Student Funding Opportunities."

Mark B. RHEA Scholarship 

The Mark B. Rhea Soil Science scholarship was funded by Mark B. Rhea before his passing to help support students involved in undergraduate research in soils.  Awarded to upper division or graduate student.   
This scholarship does not require a separate application. Eligible students are automatically matched based on information provided in their student record and financial aid file.

  • Will you have 60 or more units earned by the end of Spring semester 2026
  • Would you like to work with an ESM faculty member next academic year?

If you answered yes to these two questions, consider applying for this scholarship. Scholarships are generally $1000 per student.

MARY LOU GOODWIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORED BY EUREKA SEQUOIA GARDEN CLUB

The scholarship will be awarded to a local college or high school student from Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, or an unincorporated area, who displays interest and aptitude in the fields of Agriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Environmental Studies, Floral Arrangement, or a related field.

 Successful applicants should demonstrate experience or aptitude in one of the following fields for a career in: 

• botany • conservation • floriculture • horticulture • landscape architecture Eligibility Criteria: • plant biology and/or plant genetics • community supported agriculture and farm sciences • plant and environmental sciences 

Eligibility Criteria: 

A current high school senior with proof of enrollment into the field of study; OR • A current college student who has completed a minimum of one semester of college with proof of enrollment into the field of study 

How to Apply:

 1. Send or give a copy of the recommendation letter to two people who know you well.  Ask that they mail it to the address below prior to the deadline.

Undergraduate Student Research Award Program  2025-2026

Who: The program is available to undergraduate students enrolled at Cal Poly Humboldt and who propose an activity on a marine- or coastal-related subject.  The student must be in good academic standing (GPA > 2.0) and work with a Cal Poly Humboldt COAST faculty advisor. Students are encouraged to submit joint applications when appropriate. A letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor is not required.

When Can I Apply: Proposals can be submitted anytime between January 15 and April 15, 2025. Upon submission we will review your proposal and make a decision within 10 working days.  Funds can be used over the summer.

How Much: Up to $500 may be requested for supplies, software, fees. Larger requests (up to $750) may be considered under certain circumstances (see below).

Calling All STEM Students: Apply for PG&E College Scholarships of Up to $10,000

The PG&E Foundation will award $350,000 in scholarships to up to 60 students. Eligible students can receive awards of $10,000, $5,000 or $2,500. Funding for these charitable contributions comes from PG&E shareholders, not PG&E customers.

In addition to the Better Together STEM Scholarship, PG&E’s 11 Employee Resource Groups and two Engineering Networking Groups will award over $300,000 in scholarships. Funded by employee donations and fundraising, these programs have awarded more than $6 million since 1989.

Internship Opportunities!

Volunteer Wilderness Ranger Internship Summer 2026 

Wilderness Ranger Interns (Volunteers) support the BLM Arcata Field Office and King Range NCA through backcountry patrols and trail maintenance. Working in teams of 2–4, interns backpack up to four days carrying 50-pound loads, complete risk management training, lead biweekly Lost Coast Trail patrols to promote safety and Leave No Trace principles, and assist with campsite restoration, debris and invasive species removal, and marine mammal monitoring.

 - First Aid & CPR - Defensive driving & 4x4 driving - Wilderness Act of 1964 and wilderness management  - Backcountry trail maintenance and crosscut  saw use - Tool maintenance - Campsite inventory and rehabilitation - Public contact methods - Leave No Trace ethics - Data collection and organization - Risk management for field personnel - Radio use and communications - Emergency management  - Natural and cultural history of the King Range - Wildlife surveying and plant surveying

CSU Internships at Sandia Summer 2026

We want to share an exciting research opportunity for your students. As part of a Department of Energy RENEW grant, we have internship opportunities at Sandia National Laboratories exploring quantum information science and technology. Interns will collaborate with Sandia’s renowned quantum team, engaging in theoretical, computational, and experimental work across a variety of quantum applications, including quantum computing and quantum sensing. Participants will have the chance to explore innovative quantum technologies such as neutral atoms, trapped ions, photonics, NV diamonds, and much more!

Past projects have included topics like:

• "Characterizing a Broadband Electro-Optical Modulator for Trapped Ion Quantum Computing"

• "Artificial Intelligence for Brain-Computer Interfaces using Atomic Magnetic Sensors"

• "Designing and Building an Optical Switchboard for Trapped Ion Atomic Clocks"

These internships are in-person and exclusively available to CSU students. Applicants must be enrolled undergraduate students at a CSU campus and willing to relocate to either Livermore, CA, or Albuquerque, NM, depending on the project (with $1500 relocation assistance available). Interns will work 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks between May and September 2026, and will be compensated at a rate of $30/hour.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) is a GFAS-accredited nonprofit sanctuary in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas, providing a lifelong home for over 100 rescued animals—including tigers, lions, bears, and more.

We’re seeking passionate, self-motivated individuals for a full-time, six-month internship. This physically demanding, hands-on role offers real experience in exotic animal husbandry and animal care.

Dune Ecosystem Restoration Team

Add gloves, shovels, and brush axes to human hands, and you have the strongest dune restoration tool around. You can make a difference in the ecosystem, one invasive plant removal at a time. Within months of initially removing invasive plants, volunteers witness native plants re-sprouting on their own. No experience is necessary. We will have snacks and tools to share. No need to reserve a spot, meet us at the specified locations a few minutes before 10 am. Training, camaraderie, and beautiful scenery are provided.
