Kate McPike
Business Administration, 1971
Kate McPike, 1971 Business, has lived all over California, Long Island, New Orleans, Chicago, and Houston. Now, she has finally retired to Ahwatukee (Phoenix), Arizona. She started a pet sitting business in 2016 called K8's Pet Care. She loves what she does and loves being her own boss. Prior to retirement she was a district operations manager for Weight Watchers International and ended her career in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. as a strategic planning and training manager for the CA Credit Union League, a trade association for credit unions in California. Happily divorced and happy to be retired with her own business!
Peter Cowper

Peter Cowper, 1971 Business, has served as a member of the board of directors of the Sequoia Riverlands Trust since 2013. The trust is a regional nonprofit land trust accredited by the Land Trust Alliance, which is dedicated to strengthening California's heartland and the natural and agricultural legacy of the southern Sierra Nevada and San Joaquin Valley.

I'm the Strategic Planning/Training Manager for the CA/NV Credit Union League (a trade association for credit unions in CA and NV). I moved back to CA nine years ago after 12 years in New Orleans. I plan to retire in New Orleans within the next two years.

Graduated 107- with a BA in Business Education. Earned teaching credential in 1971 at Humboldt. Retired in 2008 from the Chaffey School Dist.(Ontario,Ca) after 36 years as teacher, coach, counselor, and assistant principal. Married Anita in 1974, two children Andrea and Zack. In 2011 with Gary Tuttle(69), Vince Engle(70(, Pete Pedroza(71), and Bill Scobey(72) started the Jim and JoAnne Hunt Scholarship Funds for track and cross country athletes. Obituary: Dr. Wendy L. Woodward RN, PhD, 69, died Sunday at home with her family present after her battle fighting cancer. She was born in Bremerton, Washington, spending nearly all of her adult life in Humboldt County. Wendy was a registered nurse and nursing faculty for Humboldt State University program from 1979 through her retirement as the Chair of the Nursing Program. Now retired after 30+ years of Federal service with the US Govermental Accountability Office, US Bureau of Reclamation, the Department of Energy and US Army Vietnam veteran. Have enjoyed world wide travels with my wife of 47 years Emilie (Britvec) Townsend (66). Will always treasure our years at HSU where we met and married.
Pamela Hartvig Range
Social Work, 1967
Pamela Hartvig Range is a practicing psychotherapist, expressive arts therapist, and artist. After graduating from HSU she went on to get her MSW at California State University Sacramento, an MFA in paint from California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California, and a PhD in Expressive Therapy. She is practicing privately in Sacramento, California. Hartvig Range also worked as a medical social worker and performed many types of out patient mental health as well as a lot of clinical supervision. She has shown her oil paintings and prints all over. She did abstract landscapes for 30 years and has switched to the human form.
Rick M. Gardner

After graduation, Rick Gardner ('65, Psychology) attended the University of Nevada Reno where he received his Ph.D. in psychology in 1969. He was a professor and department chair at two universities, most recently at the University of Colorado Denver. His research emphasis was on body image and retired in 2010. In recognition of Humboldt's many contributions to his journey into academia, Rick recently funded three annual scholarships for psychology undergraduate majors who are assisting psychology faculty in their research. He is most grateful for his experiences and the mentorship he received at Humboldt State.

Rick met the woman of his dreams in graduate school. They were married in 1967. Their happy marriage lasted 50 years until her death in 2017. Rick has 2 children, a boy and a girl.

Rick M. Gardner, 1965 Psychology, received his M.A. (1967) and Ph.D. (1969) from University of Nevada, Reno in experimental psychology. He served as Professor and Department Chair at the University of Southern Colorado from 1969 to 1991, and later as Professor and Department Chair at the University of Colorado, Denver, from 1991 to 2000. Gardner has published extensively in several areas of psychology with particular emphasis on the topic of body image. He retired in 2003 and has travelled extensively in 90 countries.
