English Club and Honor Society
The English Club
The English Club is open to all students who have an interest in English Studies. It's an especially great space to develop leadership skills and create community for English majors and minors, as well as graduate students in the M.A. program in English.
In 2025-26, we are revitalizing The English Club to create new opportunities for English community events. The English Club meets regularly and is a registered club with Student Life. New board members are elected annually. Some past English Club projects include: students vs. faculty trivia night, "bad movie" nights, community pop-up libraries, picnics, creating welcome packages for new English students, writing groups, and National Novel Writing Month participation.
The English Club also invites students to join the Humboldt chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta International Honor Society (more information below).
Sigma Tau Delta - International English Honor Society
Sigma Tau Delta was founded in 1924 to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Students who join Sigma Tau Delta are part of our local chapter, and are eligible for national awards, participation in international conventions, and publication in The Rectangle, an international literary magazine. Membership in Sigma Tau Delta can be listed on a resume or C.V. to demonstrate achievement in English Studies.
To apply for membership, ensure that you meet eligibility requirements and submit the following in a single application packet to Lisa Tremain in the English department office: Founders Hall 201.
- A complete application form (List "Alpha Psi Theta" under chapter)
- A printed copy of your unofficial transcript
- Membership fee: A $60 application fee ($45 fees for Pell-eligible applicants)
**Application Fee Waivers: If you have financial need, the English department offers a limited number of scholarships to cover, in part or in full, the cost of membership. Contact english@humboldt.edu for information!
