Planning ahead will help make your visits smooth, enjoyable and memorable as you share in your student’s milestones at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Transportation Tips

There are several ways to get to Humboldt - by plane, car or bus. Find helpful information on arriving to campus. Our transportation department also offers ways to support your student while Going Home for Breaks and Holidays.

Lodging Tips

It’s never too early to make a reservation. Be sure to mention your affiliation with Cal Poly Humboldt in case they offer special discounts! Stay beyond Arcata, many small towns and accommodations close by outside the city of Arcata, including the quaint seaside town of Trinidad.

Food Tips

Find fresh local produce at the Arcata Farmer’s Market, eat at local restaurants, breweries, and food trucks. Plan your visit around Oysterfest, Tacofest, and Friday Night Markets to enjoy Humboldt’s unique culinary fare.

Things To-Do Tips

Humboldt County offers a wide variety of activities for visiting families eager to explore the region’s natural beauty and local culture.

In Eureka, visitors can stroll through Old Town to shop at local boutiques, enjoy dining along the waterfront, and take a Madaket Harbor Cruise on Humboldt Bay. Visit the Sequoia Park Zoo and Redwood Sky Walk, an elevated trail that offers a view of the redwood canopy.

Arcata features the lively Arcata Plaza filled with local shops and cafés, as well as scenic outdoor destinations like the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary with miles of walking trails and the nearby Humboldt Bay Trail for biking or walking along the coast.

To the west, the Friends of the Dunes Visitor Center in Manila offers guided hikes and access to preserved coastal dunes. For ocean lovers, the county’s rugged beaches and farther afield, the Redwood National and State Parks to the north and south offer unforgettable hikes among the tallest trees on Earth.
