Henry Mulak

Henry Mulak is developing a branded media company following 40 years of reporting, including for the "Big Three" broadcasting networks in the United States. The Ah! Channel (https://ahchannel.com) focuses on artificial intelligence. This comes on the heels of some six years studying computer science and business in Stanford University's Continuing Studies program. Henry was ahead of the curve when OpenAI released ChatGPT in November of 2022, quickly joining a startup in the development of digital personas. "The potential for growth here is tremendous," Henry says, noting that business models in everything from media to healthcare are changing rapidly.

Jeff C. Stevenson

Jeff C. Stevenson, 1981 Journalism, was recently accepted into the Horror Writers Association. Stevenson has several articles, flash fiction, short stories and novelettes being published this year. Film rights for Stevenson’s first book, “Fortney Road: Life, Death, and Deception in a Christian Cult,” are now being represented by Steve Fisher of the Agency for the Performing Arts. Dean Koontz calls Stevenson’s book, “a unique and compelling true story.”

After a 40-year career working for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Washington State Department of Ecology, Ron Holcomb ('76, Journalism, Natural Resources, Biology) wrote a book about his role in protecting the environment. "Constant Chaos - The Daily Battle to Protect the Environment" describes the life of a spill responder that at times is chaotic, difficult, and dangerous, and documents some of the most significant environmental disasters in Washington state. Emily Kratzer

Since 2018,Emily has been a featured freelancer for Autumn Years magazine, a Bergen County, N.J., publication celebrating the lives of people ages 60 and older. She volunteers with public-access WCTV.us and C.E.R.T. Active Unitarian-Universalist.

Emily Kratzer, 1976 Journalism, accepted a buyout offer in 2012 during a round of Gannett Company layoffs. While enjoying retirement, Kratzer now volunteers with WCTV.us, community access TV, among other things.

As I approach my 60th birthday, I'm thrilled my older daughter, Nicole, an engineer with CalTrans, will be married in September to Tim Farrell,a CDF firefighter and also a HSU alum. Nicole and Tim live on Kneeland and are planning a "hoe down" on their mountain property (with two bands!) as their wedding reception. I'm also happy to be "on the mend" from recent neck surgery and am looking forward to my next trip to Kauai in October to celebrate my 60th!

Gayle Hall

Gayle Hall, 1973 Journalism, teaches English as a Second Language and Citizenship Preparation at Torrance Adult School. She has worked for Torrance Unified School District for more than 20 years and recently received the the Certificated Employee of the Year award. She and husband Tom Hall (’74, History) met and married while in college. They have been married for 45 years and have three sons. A favorite activity is going for long walks at a local beach. Prior to her teaching career, Hall worked as a magazine editor and writer. While attending HSU, she worked part-time as a feature writer for the Eureka Times-Standard.

Michael Stockstill, Journalism, 1971, has been appointed to the board of the Irvine Land Trust, a non-profit building and operating low cost housing in Irvine, California. The Land Trust has and will construct rental and for sale units that will remain in Land Trust ownership forever, guaranteeing the units remain affordable.
