Aging with Intention: The Science and Spirit of Staying Connected

Description

Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Samantha Day, Director of Social Services, Humboldt Senior Resource Center:

What does it mean to age with intention — and why does social connection matter more than ever as we grow older? In this session, we’ll explore the powerful link between purpose, connection, and well-being in later life. Drawing from current research and lived experience, we’ll highlight how meaningful relationships, roles, and community engagement support physical, emotional, and cognitive health. Participants will walk away with renewed inspiration, practical strategies, and a deeper understanding of how to foster belonging and purpose — for themselves, their loved ones, and their community.

Humboldt Senior Resource Center (HSRC) is a vital hub for aging services on California’s North Coast, providing support, connection, and care for older adults, adults with disabilities, and their families. With a legacy of more than 50 years, HSRC offers a comprehensive array of programs—from nutritious meals and social connection opportunities, adult day health care, behavioral health services, and care management to our wraparound-style health plan program, Redwood Coast PACE. Our work is rooted in a commitment to dignity, independence, and well-being across the lifespan. Whether someone seeks help navigating complex health needs or simply a place to belong, HSRC is here—strengthening lives and building community every day. https://www.humsenior.org/

Her research focused on ways to reduce older adult social isolation and promote healthy aging through evidence-based and culturally responsive strategies. Dr. Day holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Humboldt State University and is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with over 15 years of behavioral health direct practice, training, evidence-based programming, and consultation experience. Dr. Day is a lifelong resident of Humboldt County and enjoys cooking, traveling, and performing with her husband in their local cover band, Blue Rhythm Revue.
