The Future of Local Media & the Role of the Lost Coast Outpost
Description
Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Hank Sims, Editor, Lost Coast Outpost:
Lost Coast Outpost editor Hank Sims talks about keeping local media alive and healthy -- or trying to -- during a time of media consolidation, hyper-partisanship and technological revolution.
The Lost Coast Outpost is Humboldt County's home page. It chronicles our days, celebrates our triumphs and interrogates its faults. It is a project of Lost Coast Communications, a locally-owned media company that also runs four local FM radio stations.
Hank Sims is the editor and lead developer of the Lost Coast Outpost, a tech-forward hyperlocal news website serving the 135,000 residents of Humboldt County, California — a rural region on the state’s North Coast. An alumnus of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, he has written for dozens of California publications, from the Los Angeles Times to the Anderson Valley Advertiser. He lives with his wife and his sons in a seismically unstable old Victorian home in Eureka.
The presentation will begin promptly at noon.
