Political Engagement at the Local Level

Brown Bag Lunch Online Presentation with Natalie Arroyo, County of Humboldt:

Get an overview of ways to participate in the political process at the local level -- as an advocate, a volunteer, or even a candidate for public office. This presentation will focus on non-partisan tips for effective community engagement and what structures are in place at the local government level that are helpful to understand. There will be time for questions and discussion.

Natalie Arroyo lives in Eureka, California, and is an elected member of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors representing District 4.

Natalie has worked on a wide range of watershed restoration, public health, and community organizing projects throughout the north coast over the past 20 years. She is a proud veteran and U.S. Coast Guard Reserve officer.

Natalie earned her master of science degree from Cal Poly Humboldt, and is a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science and Management.

She has previously served on the boards of the Salmonid Restoration Federation, Humboldt Trails Council, and worked as an AmeriCorps member with the Mattole Salmon Group.

Natalie also currently serves as the board chair of the Humboldt Transit Authority, and as a board member for the Klamath River Renewal Corporation, Redwood Region Economic Development Commission, Redwood Coast Energy Authority, and First 5 Humboldt.

She is passionate about watershed health, energy resilience, active forms of transportation, effective community engagement, and the relationship between people and place – particularly in rural and geographically isolated community settings.
