The Geology of California Coastal National Monument

Cost: FREE to OLLI members

    Dates

  • Fri., Oct. 3, 1-2:50 p.m.

Location: In person: Arcata

With Elliott Dabill, BLM Volunteer Docent, & Anna Arsic, BLM Park Ranger

This slideshow presentation will explore the geology of the California Coastal Monument. We will take a close look at an ancient convergent plate boundary and associated faults that have since been pushed up to the surface, and are clearly evident on many of the rocky beaches in Humboldt County.

Connecting the Pacific Ocean with the land, the California Coastal National Monument provides unique coastal habitat for marine-dependent wildlife and vegetation on more than 20,000 rocks, islands, exposed reefs and pinnacles along the California coastline, as well as 7,924 acres of public land in six onshore units including the Trinidad Head Lighthouse. The scenic beauty and important wildlife habitat within the Monument are protected by the Bureau of Land Management as National Conservation Lands.

Class #: 44037

Registration is now open for OLLI members. Non-members may register starting Sept. 3.
