Humboldt Bay from the Water: Kayak Tour

Sun., July 26, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Location: In person: Eureka

Cost: $60

With Mairead Sardina, Interim OLLI Coordinator

Discover Humboldt Bay from the seat of a kayak! This introductory level tour will provide you with all you need for a fun aquatic outing -- kayaking gear, experienced guides, and instruction on basic safety and kinesthetics for when you’re out paddling.

Learn about what makes Humboldt Bay such a unique and precious habitat, as well as bits of local history that show just how impactful human interaction has been here on Wigi (Wiyot for Humboldt Bay).

No experience? No problem! This tour focuses on the FUNdamentals!

Course is subject to rescheduling due to weather conditions.

Please reach out to the OLLI office immediately with any ADA requests. This is a physical program in which you will need the ability to walk on a floating dock & sit for an extended period of time while paddling. Participants will be using tandem & single sit-on-top kayaks. A limited amount of single boats are available & the others will be paired up in tandem kayaks. You can expect to be on the water between 1.5-2 hours total.

This class is full.

Mairead Sardina

Mairead Sardina has guided and coordinated outdoor programs since 2018. She graduated with a degree from Humboldt State University in therapeutic applications of recreation, and now teaches aquatic leadership skills to students going through the same program.

Her greatest joys come from teaching leadership/ technical skills and creating impactful experiences for her participants. She coordinated programs for the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center for years before moving on to guide for companies like REI.

She holds certifications as a Wilderness First Responder (NOLS WFR) and Instructional Kayaking (ACA L2). As of July 2025 she joined the OLLI at Humboldt team, becoming the new Program Specialist, and is thrilled to bring kayaking and outdoor adventure programs back to OLLI.
