Discover Humboldt Bay from the seat of a kayak! This introductory level tour will provide you with all you need for a fun aquatic outing -- kayaking gear, experienced guides, and instruction on basic safety and kinesthetics for when you’re out paddling.
Learn about what makes Humboldt Bay such a unique and precious habitat, as well as bits of local history that show just how impactful human interaction has been here on Wigi (Wiyot for Humboldt Bay).
No experience? No problem! This tour focuses on the FUNdamentals!

Mairead Sardina
Mairead Sardina moved to Humboldt County from San Diego in 2016 to pursue a degree in recreation administration from Humboldt State University. She immediately fell in love with the connections to nature, community, and art.
After graduating with an emphasis in therapeutic applications of recreation, she began working as the operations supervisor for the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, where she was first introduced to OLLI. Over the years she became the program coordinator for Center Activities, working to bring enticing recreation and leisure programs to the community.
In 2023 she began working as an independent contractor, coordinating and guiding outdoor adventure programs for numerous local outfitters and international tourism companies.
In her free time, Mairead enjoys hiking with her dogs, kayaking Humboldt’s waterways, and making novice pottery as a creative outlet.
Mairead finds satisfaction in developing ways to bring people together and facilitate their connection with one another and the world around them. She is excited to use her passion for community engagement and lifelong learning to support the continued growth of the OLLI program.
