An Introduction to the Alexander Technique

Wed., July 8-29

Location: In person: On campus

Cost: $70

With James Peck, Somatic Teacher

The Alexander Technique is a practical way to help you move, think, and live with greater ease. Through gentle guidance from a trained teacher with the contemporary Alexander School, you learn to notice and change everyday habits -- often unconscious ones -- that create tension, pain, or strain. Rather than “fixing” symptoms, the work helps you return to your body’s natural design, so ease and balance can re-emerge from the inside out.

This class focuses on how your head, neck, and spine work together to organize the whole body. When this relationship is free, movement becomes lighter, posture improves naturally, and thinking feels clearer and calmer.

The Alexander Technique isn’t massage or a quick fix. It’s not medical treatment or exercise training. Instead, it teaches you how to recognize habits that no longer serve you -- and gives you the choice to move, sit, stand, and live differently. Think of it as a robust way of checking and maintaining the foundations of your building rather than covering over cracks in the wall.

Many people experience reduced pain, improved confidence, and a greater sense of control in daily life. Ultimately, it’s a reintroduction to yourself -- moving and living with more freedom, comfort, and authenticity.

Over the 4 weeks you will get an introduction to F.M. Alexander's life and work, have an experiential based reflection of patterns of interference, gain the tools to re-establish wellbeing and freedom of movement, and find new ways to undo unwanted habits and create healthier ones!

Register by 12 p.m., July 6.
