Walking Tour of Old Town Eureka

Wed., Feb. 18, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Time: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Location: In person: Eureka

Cost: $30

With Elliott Dabill, California Naturalist

Meet in Old Town Eureka to walk a large circle around the Victorian heart of Eureka. Topics will include the 19th-century development of the town from nothing in 1849 to a boomtown at the turn of the century. The lumber industry played a major role in that growth, as did relationships with the Wiyot, Yurok and other local tribes — history that matters even when it’s shocking. Eureka still retains some of the Victorian architecture from that period, and we’ll discuss the differences between styles such as Queen Anne and Italianate.

Class #: 23927

Registration opens for OLLI members on Feb. 3. Non-members may register starting Feb. 9.
