Planetary Care for Young Learners

Project Description
This project focuses on offering young children in the Child Development Laboratory opportunities for engagement with the natural world and the ability to develop an ethic of care for our planet. Children will be able to spend time outdoors and in the Arcata Community Forest no matter the weather, geared up for the elements and ready to observe, interact, and develop an ethos of care for the place they call home. College students will support the project by developing curriculum, documenting children’s learning, and establishing partnerships with other programs on campus to enhance children’s learning. This project demonstrates sustainability by engaging our campus’ youngest learners (those who hold promise for developing sustainable ideas if embedded in early years curriculum), promoting care for our planet at a young age and engaging with sustainability curriculum related to being with the planet, drawing on posthuman perspectives.
