Ashley Yost

Emphasis: Practicing Sociology

Research interests: Harm reduction, drug policy, social justice, public health, community engagement, and decolonization

Why Cal Poly Humboldt Public Sociology? After completing an AA in Interdisciplinary Studies: Social and Behavioral Science and an AA in Sociology, I transferred to CPH to pursue a BA in sociology. I chose the blended BA/MA for many reasons, but particularly for the supportive and engaging faculty, social justice focus, small-sized cohort, and beautiful location.

Education and career goals: To work in the field of harm reduction, with a focus on enacting social change and supporting equitable access to harm reduction services. Specifically, through combating institutional power structures which often prevent equitable access and engagement with harm reduction resources.

Favorite places in Humboldt: Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, College Cove Beach, and Arcata Community Forest
