Research Interests: Topics which I am hoping to explore are various themes which can be categorized under sociological technology.

-Social shaping of Technology

-Unregulated Technology

-techno-utopian and techno-dystopian narratives

Emphasis: Teaching Sociology

Education/Career Goals: I aspire to earn my PhD in sociology so that I can one day teach in higher education. I also hope to publish studies that inspire social initiatives and create positive change. Through this work, I want to advocate for my communities, who have always been a big part of why I pursued sociology in the first place. At the same time, I plan to maintain strong ties to the legal field in some capacity.

Before the program: I got my bachelor’s in Sociology at UC Santa Cruz, where I built up my skills through different internships. I got the chance to transcribe 14th- and 15th-century Spanish documents and use GIS Storymapping for storytelling, help with a pilot study that provided data for the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and work with the Campesina WombJustice Organization, which focused on supporting indigenous farmworking mothers. More recently, I’ve been working at a law firm doing quality control, which has been really fulfilling work.

Why CPH Masters Sociology Program: I chose this program because when I came across its description, it matched the skills I believe I already have as well as the ones I hope to gain. I’ve long hoped to teach at a community college, so this really stood out to me especially, since it’s in a place surrounded by nature.
