Sajita Shah-Morales
Emphasis: Practicing Sociology
Research Interests: Abolition, environmental justice, global carceral systems, settler colonialism, restorative justice
Background: I graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2019 with a B.S. in Neuroscience and have been working in the biotech industry since. I am thrilled to take my first step towards a career change via Cal Poly Humboldt's MA in Public Sociology. My goal is to develop the skill sets and theoretical/historical frameworks necessary to understand carceral systems and help develop abolitionist-driven alternatives. I chose this program because of its emphasis on praxis, commitment to investing back into the local Humboldt community, and faculty whose research is well-aligned with my own interests.
