Torisha Khonach

Lecturer

Dr. Torisha Khonach is excited to be teaching again at Cal Poly Humboldt, especially as an alum of the Sociology Department! Torisha's research spans multiple topics with an emphasis on body and embodiment, gender, sexuality, and race. Torisha is particularly interested in the ways in which the physical body is socially constructed, challenging the idea that bodies are "natural" and instead become inscribed with social value and meaning.

Currently, Torisha is working on research examining women in conservative political movements and student use of artificial intelligence tools in the classroom.

In addition to research, Torisha is an active mentor, teacher, and firmly believes in the power of education and access to knowledge, especially exposing the "hidden curriculum" and giving students multiple opportunities for success. Torisha enjoys working with students in and outside of the classroom, such as traveling with students to academic conferences, providing opportunities for guest speaking, and co-authoring peer-reviewed papers with students.
