Abstract
The Marvin Goss Photographs Collection includes images (35 mm slides and photographs), taken by Marvin Goss, for HSU faculty research of forest land in northern California. The material was collected in the sixties and seventies on faculty expeditions to site locations. The information it contains focuses specifically on industrial forest practices as well as natural disasters. with potentially less natural indirect causes (e.g. rock slides).

Scope and Content of the Collection
Goss had previously organized the collection, the only modification was transferring the microfilm to proper archival storage (acid-free plastic sheets). The first binder encompasses 149 35mm slides of forest practices from 1968 to 1969, approximately. Chronologically, the next binder (‘74-’76) predominantly houses microfilm of rockslides (Soldiers Creek (‘74 & ‘76), Highway 96 (‘76)). There are 137 slides. The last of the microfilm binders holds 218 slides that detail both forest practices and the aftermath of them (e.g. the litter from burns, debris from clearing, creek debris). Natural disasters are shown as well (e.g. rock slide on the Klamath River, fires and aftermath). The sole scrapbook-esque binder within the collection houses 7 black and white and 171 color photographs. This book details, according to Goss, the “good, the bad, and the ugly” of forestry practices. He gives a comment on the inside cover: “The following depict why our creeks and rivers turn muddy whenever it rains.” - Marvin Goss 12/4/2016
Arrangement of the Collection
The collection is arranged into three binders that contain microfilm and one scrapbook containing photographs. The microfilm within the binders details forest practices that pertain to private industry, government, and indigenous land. Some of the forest practices associated with industry that are depicted include slash burning and helicopter spraying. Documentation of numerous rock slides is also to be found within the collection (e.g. Soldiers Creek Slide (‘74).
