Action required: Canvas Portfolio tool will change for students and instructors

This page has everything you need to save your work and transition smoothly before the deadline.

What's changing

Canvas is retiring two legacy portfolio tools on December 30, 2026. This affects both students and instructors who use either tool. If you're not sure which portfolio you use, check for a notice banner inside the tool, Canvas is already displaying reminders in both legacy tools. A new portfolio is already available as a replacement.

The three types of Canvas portfolios
Portfolio (new)The new Canvas portfolio experience is ready to use today. More details and getting-started guides are in the sections below.
ePortfolio (legacy)The original Canvas portfolio tool, built directly into Canvas. You'll see a retirement banner when you open it.
Folio/Portfolium (legacy)  A separate portfolio platform integrated with Canvas, also known as Portfolium. Also showing a retirement banner in the tool.

What you need to do

  1. Download your portfolio data from any legacy software you used

Don't wait! Exports can take a day or more to process. The sooner you request your download, the more time you have. Step-by-step instructions are in the sections below.

  2.  Migrate to Portfolio (recommended but optional)

The new Portfolio is already available to all students and instructors. We recommend setting it up and moving your content over before December 30. Migration guides are in the sections below.

  3. Complete everything before December 30!

After this date, both ePortfolio and Folio (Portfolium) will no longer be accessible. Taking action now gives you plenty of time to make the switch without stress.
