Virtual activities can meet the needs of
  • Students involved in online/distance learning and living out of the area, or who have limited transportation or scheduling flexibility
  • Organizations with minimal space and needs that require online work
  • Circumstances that necessitate virtual work (pandemic, shutdowns, etc.)

Virtual activities suggestions

  • Conduct project-based or indirect activities to meet community priorities and course requirements
  • Conduct virtual or phone-based educational supports for youth and adults
  • Translate materials into Spanish
  • Design a mock continuity plan for an impacted program
  • Conduct a needs assessment or SWOT analysis
  • Conduct informational interviews with a small number of professionals in your field of interest and write a summary paper
  • Build training manuals for future students in positions with your programs; create videos giving advice to future interns, majors, or Service Learning students
  • Record and stream performances or workshops to benefit your organization and clients
  • Conduct research for the organization on community issues and create a report or video presentation. Students can create informative videos about organizational resources and post them to a YouTube channel. The Humboldt Library offers Skillshops, including basic and advanced research skills, evaluating information resources, video storytelling, finding grant and funding opportunities, etc.
  • Research other national/international versions of your programs for best practices
  • Research and provide examples of working models that address equity, social, and environmental justice issues in your field
  • Review and compile lists of recent professional research, articles, and networks
  • Assist with website and social media outlets, including creating digital and other social media content, print program materials, or other methods for information-sharing
  • Conduct assessment, evaluation, or feedback via phone or web-based services
  • Create GIS maps for partner info-sharing purposes, websites, presentations, etc.
