A Study on the Line of Sight to Galaxies Detected at Gamma-ray Energies.

Amy is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Physics Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). She received her BS in Physics from Humboldt State University in 2006 and earned her PhD doing very high-energy astrophysics research at UCSC in 2013, after which she moved to work as a postdoc at Stanford. Her research involves studying the most extreme processes in the Universe by working with large collaborations of scientists, all oriented toward the same goal of discovering how physics works in the most extreme environments.  She currently serves as the Spokesperson for the VERITAS Collaboration, the Director of Cal-Bridge Summer Program and has a teaching philosophy founded in inclusive access and equitable practices.

The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition® (the Putnam) is the preeminent mathematics competition for undergraduate college students in the United States and Canada. What began as a friendly competition between mathematics departments at colleges and universities back in 1938 has become the leading university-level mathematics examination in the world – and winning a prestigious accomplishment. Each December, thousands of the brightest math students from hundreds of colleges and universities compete to win top honors. Although participants work independently on the six-hour exam’s problems, there is also a team aspect to the competition. Cash prizes are awarded to the highest-ranked team’s math department and their student members and Putnam Fellows who are the highest-ranking individuals. The Elizabeth Lowell Putnam Prize is also awarded to a woman whose performance in the competition is particularly meritorious.

CSU BIOTECH Presidents’ Commission Research Scholars Program

Undergraduate Summer Research • Summer 2026

Students receive a $6,000 scholarship, and faculty mentors receive $2,000 to support their research.

Aspen Environmental Group supports students who are actively engaged in the pursuit of a career in a field with an environmental emphasis. As part of our support efforts, we are offering scholarships to support college students interested in environmentally related topics. Aspen’s scholarship is intended to promote and encourage meaningful growth within our profession to better tackle environmental challenges within the communities where we live, work, and serve.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The monetary awards will be up to $3,000 per scholarship recipient (with a total of $5,000 awarded). The award can be used for educational pursuits including tuition, books, school supplies, research, etc. Recipients will receive a check in their name from Aspen Environmental Group. Each scholarship recipient will also be invited to attend a virtual lunch with Aspen’s senior environmental staff to learn about their careers and establish professional connections. 

WHO CAN APPLY
Aspen Environmental Group will accept applications from incoming or current college students in undergraduate or graduate programs, with demonstrated financial need, attending any college in California, and who are interested in pursuing a college/university education in environmentally related topics to support a future career in environmental work. Students from all schools are encouraged to apply. Employees of Aspen Environmental Group and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The Cascadia Coastlines and Peoples Hazards Research Hub Logo

The Cascadia Coastal Hazards and Resilience Training, Education and Research (CHARTER) Fellows program is recruiting up to 15 first to third year undergraduate students from any academic discipline for an exciting opportunity to be Fellows, starting Winter term 2026. The CHARTER Fellows program is part of the Cascadia Coastlines and Peoples Hazards (CoPes) Hub.  

Fellows will:

  • Earn a stipend of $1,200 per year for their participation
  • Learn about the multiple natural threats the Greater Cascadia coastline and communities face  
  • Gain practical experience in research including conducting interviews, survey research, and participant observation; and participate in a research methods class in Winter 2026
  • Join a fully funded 3-day coastal “Research Bootcamp” in Summer 2026 held in coastal Oregon
  • Develop skills in computer modelling and geographic information systems (GIS)  
  • Support other researchers in collecting data for the larger CoPes Hub research project, and
  • Attend a fully funded national conference to present research findings

Project Timeline

  • Winter 2026- Zoom orientation with accepted Fellows from each university
  • Spring 2026 - Research Methods course
  • Summer 2026 - 3-day bootcamp in Newport, OR or other location along the coast (TBD)  
  • Potentially Fall – Spring 2026-27 - Work with a fellow Hub researcher to collect data and present findings at a national conference

Created by a graduate and lecturer from UC Santa Bárbara - Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, BIOMA has provided to over two thousand university students worldwide with a two-week intensive academic & high quality sea turtle experiential learning and hands-on research experience. Our participants collaborate side by side with experts to learn about sea turtle biology, ecology and management while doing impactful on-site conservation work and living in a local community.

Student teams (about 18 like-minded students per group), will build skills of real world application, boost their resume and knowledge while discovering incredible landscapes at Costa Rica’s Pacific sunshine coast.

The Sequoia Park Zoo Advisory Group’s Conservation Council invites pre-proposals for its 14th annual Conservation Grant Program. Projects must demonstrate a clear, measurable impact on wildlife and/or habitat conservation. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Eligible projects include research and implementation of conservation management or habitat restoration plans. Workshops, public education, or non-applied research may be considered if their conservation impact is well justified.

Priority will be given to projects that are local, aligned with the Zoo’s conservation goals, or focus on species represented at the Zoo.

The Red Bluff Fish and Wildlife Office is excited to announce SIX openings for temporary seasonal Biological (fish) Technicians, open now through NOV 21! ALL eligible candidates will be considered.

These positions are stationed either in our Red Bluff or Anderson office, and will be working primarily in the field, assisting with Mainstem Juvenile Fish Monitoring, Tributary Monitoring, or Hatchery Evaluation programs.  Activities may include sampling out-migrating juvenile salmon using Rotary Screw Traps, counting post-spawned salmon by boat survey, working in tributaries to count salmon and evaluate habitat, collecting fish migration data using acoustic telemetry, collecting samples and bio-data from juvenile and adult salmon at hatcheries, retrieving and decoding coded wire tags, and collecting juvenile sturgeon rearing habitat use data, among other projects.  Join our team doing important work for anadromous fish management in the Sacramento Valley!

Stanford University Mathematics Camp (SUMaC) seeks Admissions Exam Evaluators, a key role in the evaluation of applications. SUMaC is a summer program for advanced students in grades 10-11 who have an exceptional interest in mathematics, and who are prepared for study of abstract algebra and number theory, or algebraic topology. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review exams in accordance with our review policies and set deadlines
  • Examine and evaluate the SUMaC admissions exam
  • Provide a paragraph summary evaluation for each exam read
  • Check in weekly via email with their reading supervisor
  • Respond to feedback on evaluations
  • Meet  the expected weekly review requirement

Adherence to deadlines is essential for success in this role. Reviewers are expected to meet minimum weekly reading requirements for exam reviews.

The reading period for exam evaluators will be February 13 - March 6, 2026, with mandatory online trainings on February 11 and February 13.   • Identify actionable insights, suggest recommendations and influence the direction of the business by communicating results to cross-functional groups.
  • Work closely with a Product Manager and Engineering team to proactively create rules and manage decisions.
  • Classify leads so that the teams work on the most valuable cases.
  • Suggest improvements in the tools and techniques to help scale the team and/or build 0->1 convictions on new initiatives. Model solutions around what delivers long-run user value to our users

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Curious, self-driven, analytical and excited to play with data
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced work environment
  • Experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python), and/or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R)
  • Intent to return to a degree-program after the completion of the internship

Dune Ecosystem Restoration Team

Add gloves, shovels, and brush axes to human hands, and you have the strongest dune restoration tool around. You can make a difference in the ecosystem, one invasive plant removal at a time. Within months of initially removing invasive plants, volunteers witness native plants re-sprouting on their own. No experience is necessary. We will have snacks and tools to share. No need to reserve a spot, meet us at the specified locations a few minutes before 10 am. Training, camaraderie, and beautiful scenery are provided.
