Research is at the heart of the Humboldt Ornithology Collective. HOC scientists investigate a wide range of questions in avian ecology, behavior, evolution, and conservation, from the breeding ecology of songbirds and raptors to migration, genomics, and the effects of climate change and habitat management.

Our research spans California and beyond, bringing together faculty, students, and partner organizations to address both fundamental questions in ornithology and pressing conservation challenges. Along the way, students gain hands-on research experience while contributing to projects that inform bird conservation and wildlife management.
