RECENT AWARDS for THE PRESS AT CAL POLY HUMBOLDT PUBLICATIONS

Kathy Wollenberg’s debut novel Far Less has won two Silver medals from Nautilus Book Awards; one in the “Young Adult Fiction” category, and another in “Self-Published/Small Press.” Humboldt NOW+1

Set amid the towering redwoods near Arcata, “Far Less” follows seventeen-year-old Jesse, a teen who lives homeless in the forest with his drug-addicted mother and young sister. From his perch high in a redwood tree, Jesse clings to dignity; showering, doing laundry, keeping up with school,  while hiding his secret from classmates. But when a compassionate peer uncovers his reality, Jesse faces the possibility of connection, understanding, and hope.

The Nautilus judges praised the book as a “Better Book for a Better World,” lauding its compassionate, honest portrait of homelessness and its call to empathy for vulnerable teens and families.
