Project Rebound

Welcome to Project Rebound 

 

Project Rebound offers a life-affirming alternative to the school-to-prison pipeline and the revolving door of mass incarceration. This special admissions program, managed by formerly incarcerated individuals, is designed for students who have been "system-impacted." It provides admissions opportunities to prospective students who may not typically qualify for university acceptance due to application deadlines or minor academic deficiencies. The program is supported by the Associated Students and other campus departments. 

83% of Project Rebound students—the majority of whom are Pell Grant recipients and Black, Latinx, or Native—have remained in good academic standing. Two-thirds have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. In addition, Project Rebound has increased the number of annual graduates by 304% (from 61 graduates in the Class of 2019 to an expected 247 graduates in the Class of 2023). Learn More

Associated Programs

Most youths who are incarcerated have significant histories of trauma and other adverse childhood experiences, and incarceration increases their risk of ongoing victimization and trauma. Juvenile incarceration also increases the likelihood of adult incarceration by 40 percent. 

Project Rebound, with its abundant collect expertise bred from lived experience, higher education, and the successful construction of a prison-to-college pathway, is seeking to increase its statewide impact on disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline that derails the education and personal journeys of so many would-be first-generation college students.  Learn More

 

Effective communication is consistently ranked among the top skills sought by employers across various industries. Engaging in communication studies offers individuals the chance to hone a wide array of vital capabilities, including facilitation, critical listening, public speaking, and persuasive techniques. This field of study also delves into the role of public discourse in driving cultural change, as well as enhancing interpersonal skills and advocacy strategies. 

Cal Poly Humboldt offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) for Pelican Bay students who have completed their Associate's Degree. The program is designed as a degree completion program that can support students by offering 60 units of targeted courses to finish the BA degree in Communication. Learn More

 

Project Rebound at California Polytechnic University, Humboldt is partnering with Project Rebound at College of the Redwoods to develop a peer mentoring program. The primary purpose of the Project Rebound Peer Mentoring Program is to increase student success through human connection and community building. The Peer Mentoring Program also seeks to decrease recidivism, increase graduation rates and to provide the mentee with all the support needed to achieve their goals in higher education.
