Linda Morrissey (she, her), LCSW
Case Manager for SHWS
Having been born and raised in New York City, I have spent a great deal of time living in large, urban areas. After a more recent stint in the Southwest desert, I am transitioning as a fairly new transplant to Humboldt County. With its abundant and indescribable beauty, I am finding that Humboldt offers adventure, healing and peace at every turn.
I obtained a BA degree from Queens College (NY) in Education and a graduate degree in Social Work from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Mental Health. I have held a clinical license in Social Work (LCSW) since 2008.
Professional work experience includes: teaching, counseling high school students, working in group homes for unhoused and foster youth, working in transitional housing for victims of domestic violence and years spent within Child Welfare, working extensively with child victims of trauma. Having worked largely with oppressed and marginalized populations in varying systems, I am dedicated to removing barriers and partnering with clients to move toward healing and actualization of goals.
My approach with all clients is humanistic and person centered. I offer each individual a safe space tailored to embrace their identity, culture and unique needs and preferences. All service delivery is built upon trauma informed care.
Favorite professional and self-help books include: The Art of Communicating by Thich Nhat Hanh; Mattering by Jennifer Breheny Wallace; Soul Therapy by Thomas Moore; What Happened to You? By Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D and Oprah Winfrey; and The Wild Edge of Sorrow by Francis Weller, LMFT.
Favorite quote: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
When not at work, I prefer to be hiking or cycling on a trail, beach walking with my canines, swimming, doing yoga and connecting with loved ones. And when time allows, travel, reading and crocheting.
Areas of Interest
Life Transitions, Mindfulness practices, Somatic Therapy, Sport Psychology, Eating Disorders, Developmental Disabilities, ADHD, Grief and Loss, Non-Violent Communication, Self Compassion and Trauma work, especially in the area of sexual abuse. As a certified yoga instructor, I believe that lots of healing can occur on a mat.
