Barbara Scaroni
Forestry & Wildland Resources, 1978
Barbara Scaroni has managed to stay a dirt forester over the many years. Scaroni is still out marking and cruising timber, administering timber sales, running property lines, and writing environmental assessments, timber sale contracts, and researching the land use history of my timber sale areas. During college, Scaroni worked summers for the BLM in Ukiah, CA; Missoula, MT; Rawlins, WY; and Susanville, CA. Scaroni worked USFS in Cave Junction, OR, and Willows CA. Scaroni had permanent jobs after graduation with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs 1980-1990; Malheur National Forest, Burns, OR, 1990-1993; Coeur d'Alene Tribe, 1993-present.
Jessie Perez

Joni McAtee, MD

After HSU, Joni McAtee attended UC Davis school of medicine. McAtee did her residency in Family Medicine in Duluth, MN. McAtee returned to Humboldt County to work in a broad spectrum family medicine with obstetrics. McAtee opened a business in Fortuna, Ikigai Physician Group with a clinic. Working as hospitalist in Fortuna and Eureka. Working in Hospice with Hospice of Humboldt.
Erik Kramer-Webb

After HSU, Erik Kramer-Webb taught environmental education at schools, summer camps, Outward Bound, and NOLS. He eventually settled down in Joshua Tree where he and his wife Theresa had a son and built a straw bale house. Erik and Theresa started California Climbing School in 2017 to lead adventures in Joshua Tree and the San Jacinto Range and to promote diversity in the outdoors.

Robert T. Lackey
Fisheries Biology, 1967
Bob Lackey (BS, Fisheries, 1967) continues teaching graduate classes at Oregon State University in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences. In 2008, he retired after 27 years with the Environmental Protection Agency’s 350-person national research laboratory in Corvallis. He served as Deputy Laboratory Director, Associate Director for Science, and in other senior science leadership positions.
Jane Bardolf

After 35 years of public service including U.S. Peace Corps, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and Finally 20 years with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Jane retired in April after working 6 years at Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
David J Fisher

After graduating with a biology degree from Humboldt State in 1983, Dr. Dave Fisher received his DVM from Washington State University and practiced at a small-animal clinic prior to his residency in clinical pathology at the University of California, Davis. Following board certification, he was a clinical pathology instructor at the University of Wisconsin. In 1995, he started working for IDEXX at the company’s reference laboratory in West Sacramento. Dave was recently awarded the American Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology’s (ASVCP) Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the profession.
Frank Scherf

Frank Scherf has retired at long last!!! 35years at Snohomish County, WA as a Biologist, Senior planner, and shoreline planner. He worked for the USFS in Challis Idaho before that & after Humboldt. Scherf is now in the Rogue River Valley Oregon and loving it! Word of advise Scherf says, "Get a pension and an investment for retirement! Live good and respect the environment. Don't forget the bud that got us here."
Christopher Rush

Christopher Rush completed hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) Mexico to Canada in 2016 after hiking it in sections post retirement. After working the first half of his career with USDA & USDI (USFS-Willamette NF & BLM-Calif. Desert), he spent the last half with the Environmental Office at Edwards AFB, CA. Where Rush retired as Chief of the Conservation Branch in 2005. Married to Carol (Kohlenberger) Rush is also a 1974 HSU Grad.
