Transfer Student Organization
The Transfer Student Organization (TSO) is a student led community to encourage community and clarity in the transfer student process. It is our goal to bring students together from all walks of life and bridge the gap between transfers and the student body.
We are planning events for both the spring and fall semesters so look forward to that. If you have any questions or comments feel free to message us or emails us and we will get back to you.

Marissa "Mari" Holguin

Transfer Coordinator
About Me: I transferred from LA Harbor College to Humboldt in 2012 and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Wildlife Conservation & Management in 2015. I have been on campus ever since working in various departments on campus, and now work as the Transfer Coordinator in Admissions on top of being a master's student here at Humboldt, and the staff advisor for the Men's volleyball team. I am excited to be able to serve students who are on similar paths and to provide the support that I know transfer students need.

Abby Salazar

Transfer Student Ambassador
About Me: I was born in Oceanside, CA and went to school and was raised there until I graduated from Mission Vista High School in 2022. At the time I pursued my major, Zoology, out of state to Colorado State University in Fort Collins in order to become a wildlife vet. Quickly after I started school I decided to switch my major to Biological Anthropology after having taken a class in Human Origins and Variation and falling in love with it. I spent approximately two years in Colorado but decided to transfer back in state to Cal Poly Humboldt. Since I can remember I have been fascinated with the natural world and the history of Earth and its inhabitants, I have always known I wanted to study something related to nature or the nature of humans. What excites me most about anthropology is the interconnectedness of everything, the perfect instances in which culture and evolution have flourished. More specifically I want to pursue primatology and work in conservation around the world. However, the experience of being a transfer student has made me exponentially more passionate about fostering a warm and inclusive community on campus and in the world. I hope to help to create an environment in which everybody can feel a sense of belonging and security. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do to help or if you simply want a conversation!

Marcus Barela

Transfer Student Ambassador
About Me: I grew up in Cameron Park, CA, a small town east of Sacramento. I went to Ponderosa High School and afterwards went to Folsom Lake college for about 3 full years before transferring here in Fall 2024 with 2 associates degrees in Biology and associates in Science & Mathematics and Arts & Humanities. I came to Humboldt because of the beautiful rain forests and because I have been studying the Northwestern salamander (Ambystoma gracile) for about 2 years now, and since they are native here this is the perfect place to be! I’m a Cellular & Molecular Biology major and I focus on amphibian-algal symbioses. From trips to the jungle to research internships and various positions working with students getting ready to transfer at my community college, I am here to help with anything I can. Please feel free to reach out to me at any point in time, either for questions or just to say hi!

Transfer Student Ambassador
About Me: I was born and raised in Reedley, California, which is in Central California within Fresno County. I attended Reedley High School and then a few years later graduated from Reedley College with my Associates in Computer Science and my Associates for Transfer in Mathematics. I had only heard of Cal Poly Humboldt about a year before my graduation because I had a friend who attended and graduated from there, and when I heard that they were starting a Software Engineering pathway as soon as I got there I took that as a sign that this is the school for me. I am currently in my second semester here, and although initially I was nervous of how I would fit in at Cal Poly Humboldt, I have now become accustomed to the academic environment and love the scenery and community here! I joined the Transfer Student Organization because being a transfer student myself, I feel like I can sympathize with some of the concerns that other incoming transfer students may have when coming here, and I would like to use the knowledge I’ve gained about the school and area to help others. There are many opportunities and fun events that are provided for the students here, and I’d love to discuss these services with any student that needs help discovering what is available for them!
