Gabriel Elbert - Rasmussen
Officer of Academic Affairs
Hello! My name is Gabriel Elbert-Rasmussen, and I am running for Officer of Academic Affairs because I believe every student deserves to feel heard, supported, and set up for success.
My background in education — including working directly in educational settings and authoring a book on education, thinking, and learning — has given me a deep understanding of how students learn best and what gets in the way. More importantly, it has shaped my approach: I believe the best outcomes come from collaboration, finding common ground, and building solutions that work for everyone at the table.
As Officer of Academic Affairs, my primary focus will be on two things. First, improving communication and mutual respect between students and faculty. Many of us have experienced feeling dismissed or not taken seriously when raising academic concerns, and I want to work through the Academic Policy Committee and Grade Appeal Committee to establish clearer, fairer channels for student voices. Second, I want to help address the logistical holdups that the university's new systems have created this past year. Students and faculty alike have felt the delays, and I will work with the Provost's office and fellow A.S. members to identify where the bottlenecks are and advocate for practical improvements.
I also want to improve the dining experience for students with dietary restrictions — as a gluten-free student myself, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find safe, clearly labeled options on campus.
Thank you for your vote. I look forward to working with and for all of you!
