The Cal Poly Humboldt Transfer Student Center supports and empowers transfer students by fostering a sense of belonging, community, and purpose. We guide transfer students through their academic transition to help them reach their academic, personal, and professional goals. We celebrate transfer experiences, nurture community, and guide students to the resources and relationships needed to thrive.

We are planning events for both the spring and fall semesters so look forward to that. If you have any questions or comments feel free to message us or emails us and we will get back to you.

Transfer Student Ambassador

About Me: I was born in Oceanside, CA and went to school and was raised there until I graduated from Mission Vista High School in 2022. At the time I pursued my major, Zoology, out of state to Colorado State University in Fort Collins in order to become a wildlife vet. Quickly after I started school I decided to switch my major to Biological Anthropology after having taken a class in Human Origins and Variation and falling in love with it. I spent approximately two years in Colorado but decided to transfer back in state to Cal Poly Humboldt. Since I can remember I have been fascinated with the natural world and the history of Earth and its inhabitants, I have always known I wanted to study something related to nature or the nature of humans. What excites me most about anthropology is the interconnectedness of everything, the perfect instances in which culture and evolution have flourished. More specifically I want to pursue primatology and work in conservation around the world. However, the experience of being a transfer student  has made me exponentially more passionate about fostering a warm and inclusive community on campus and in the world. I hope to help to create an environment in which everybody can feel a sense of belonging and security. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do to help or if you simply want a conversation!

Transfer Student Ambassador

About Me:   I grew up in Cameron Park, CA, a small town east of Sacramento. I went to Ponderosa High School and afterwards went to Folsom Lake college for about 3 full years before transferring here in Fall 2024 with 2 associates degrees in Biology and associates in Science & Mathematics and Arts & Humanities. I came to Humboldt because of the beautiful rain forests and because I have been studying the Northwestern salamander (Ambystoma gracile) for about 2 years now, and since they are native here this is the perfect place to be! I’m a Cellular & Molecular Biology major and I focus on amphibian-algal symbioses. From trips to the jungle to research internships and various positions working with students getting ready to transfer at my community college, I am here to help with anything I can. Please feel free to reach out to me at any point in time, either for questions or just to say hi!

Deanna Madigan

Transfer Student Ambassador

About Me: I was born in Aurora, Colorado and moved to Redding, California during my 8th grade year. After graduating from high school I fell deeply in love with plants. I opened up a plant nursery that I ran for a decade in Redding. During that time I found that I was very passionate about the relationships between plants and animals. I took up bird watching as a hobby during the pandemic and it fueled a full on obsession with birds. In 2023 I shut down my nursery to return to school to get a degree in Wildlife to help preserve the natural landscapes I love so much. I am a first generation, non-traditional student, and I am a transfer student! I transferred from Shasta College with my Associates in Biological Science and Natural Science in Fall 2025. I am excited to be here at Cal Poly Humboldt and in addition to my Bachelor’s in Wildlife, I am pursuing a Minor in Education and Environmental Interpretation. Science Communication is something I am very passionate about and I think spreading an awareness and appreciation for our planet and everything on it is essential to be able to protect it. I am always happy to chat about school, life/work balance, resources, and of course…science! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to talk with someone about getting settled in on campus!

Elijah Filice

Transfer Student Ambassador

About Me: Howdy! I’m Elijah, an ESM student and aspiring ecologist here at Cal Poly Humboldt. I hail from a middle-of-nowhere suburb in Sacramento, and transferred up here from Sierra College in Rocklin. Being from the valley, I didn’t have the luxury of growing up around a lot of nature, so living up here has certainly been a positive change of scenery. I am passionate about everything nature-related, and am very fond of birds, reptiles, amphibians, bugs, and especially dinosaurs. I am studying ecological restoration, and hope to be able to apply the knowledge gained here towards helping to revitalize damaged habitats and protect their inhabitants. Ever since middle school, I knew I wanted to attend this university; from its unique location and diverse habitats, to the hands-on curriculum and emphasis on field research, I felt this would be the best place for me to truly engage with what I love most. Transferring up here has certainly had its ups and downs and has not been without its challenges, and I owe much of my current success in making friends and navigating campus life to the TSO and their superbly supportive staff. As an ambassador I aim to support other students in their struggles and triumphs, and help foster the same sense of belonging I first felt through our transfer community. I am more than happy to help if you ever have any questions about Humboldt, navigating campus, finding resources, or simply wanna say hi and chat about big extinct lizards for a while!

About Me: I transferred from LA Harbor College to Humboldt in 2012 and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Wildlife Conservation & Management in 2015. I have been on campus ever since working in various departments on campus, and now work as the Transfer Coordinator in Admissions on top of being a master's student here at Humboldt, and the staff advisor for the Men's volleyball team.
