Working Lands and Blue Economy

Building a Regenerative Economy — From Farm to Forest to Sea

Welcome to the Working Lands and Blue Economy Sector Hub of Redwood Region RISE — where forward-thinking land and water-based industries rooted in stewardship are key to long-term prosperity. From farms and fisheries to forests, the Redwood Region is leading a regenerative shift — advancing sustainable resource use, expanding markets, growing an inclusive and skilled workforce, and driving innovation across agriculture, forestry, and ocean industries.

Our Working Lands and Blue Economy Strategies

This strategy focuses on strengthening regional supply chains and increasing market access for working lands and blue economy products. Tactics include building out value chain infrastructure (e.g., processing facilities, food hubs, timber and wool systems) and promoting regional products through coordinated branding, institutional procurement, and expanded marketing channels.

This strategy aims to improve coordination and collaboration across sectors. Tactics center on establishing formal networks and advisory councils, strengthening industry alliances, and creating platforms for communication and knowledge sharing among partners in forestry, food systems, and the blue economy.

This strategy focuses on developing a skilled workforce while supporting resilient communities. Tactics include expanding education and training pathways, aligning workforce programs with industry demand, and creating inclusive opportunities—especially for youth, rural residents, and underrepresented communities—across forestry, fisheries, and related sectors.

This strategy supports entrepreneurship and economic diversification in rural areas. Tactics include providing funding, mentorship, and technical assistance to small businesses, expanding digital and broadband infrastructure, and promoting cooperative and scalable business models.

This strategy emphasizes data, research, and innovation to guide long-term growth. Tactics include conducting feasibility studies and economic analyses, developing data systems and case studies, and piloting new climate-aligned business models such as carbon markets, sustainable housing, and blue economy innovations.
