Our Vision
Who We Are
Cal Poly Humboldt’s California Center for Rural Policy drives research, policy, and evaluation to strengthen the wellbeing of rural communities and environments across California. Dedicated to improving the lives of rural people, CCRP produces rigorous, locally grounded research that informs practical policy and planning decisions.
Founded in 2005 by community leaders in Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino counties, CCRP was created to ensure rural voices shape the research and policies that affect their futures. Today, we continue to serve as a trusted partner to rural communities across the state.
Our Purpose
Rural communities are often studied using urban-based research models that overlook both the realities and strengths of rural life. CCRP exists to change that.
We design research methods tailored to rural populations, economies, and environments — examining challenges such as workforce shortages, housing, health access, and infrastructure, while also lifting up rural assets like strong social networks, cultural knowledge, local leadership, and environmental stewardship.
Through community surveys, program evaluation, policy analysis, and regional convening, we turn local knowledge into usable evidence. By partnering with communities to interpret findings and identify next steps, we help translate research into practical policy solutions, funding strategies, and actions that strengthen rural California.
20 Years of Strengthening Rural Communities
For two decades, CCRP has partnered with community-based organizations, Tribes, and local governments throughout rural California. Our work is grounded in community leadership and focused on impact — ensuring that research leads to accessible resources, policy insight, and meaningful change in people’s lives.
