Sue Armitage

Instructional Designer, Retired

Sue Armitage served as an Instructional Designer at Cal Poly Humboldt and brought more than 25 years of experience in public education, spanning both K–12 and higher education. She holds a BA in History from the University of Virginia and an MA in Legislative Affairs from the George Washington University.

Early in her career, Sue worked as a public interest lobbyist in Washington, D.C., where her efforts to pass hate crime legislation led to the memorable opportunity to attend a White House bill-signing ceremony. When the internet came along, Sue became intrigued by its potential to expand and enhance educational opportunities—and she was hooked.

At Cal Poly Humboldt’s Center for Teaching & Learning, Sue partnered with instructors and staff to design engaging, effective learning experiences. Her curiosity about emerging technologies, commitment to thoughtful course design, and dedication to supporting educators helped shape the work of the CTL and its service to the university community.

With Sue’s retirement, we extend our deep gratitude for her pioneering work in the Center for Teaching & Learning and her many contributions to Cal Poly Humboldt. Thank you, Sue, for the creativity, care, curiosity, and commitment you brought to this work—and for the lasting impact you have had on teaching and learning at Humboldt.
