Services for Alumni
In-Library Use of Materials
Most of the Cal Poly Humboldt Library book stacks are open to the public, and the online, OneSearch, which contains access information for most of the resources housed in the Library, may be searched from any location on or off campus. In-library use of most materials does not require a Library ID card.
Library Card
Alumni may borrow books and other circulating materials from the Library as a benefit of membership. To checkout items from the Library, a Library card is required and can be issued at the Library checkout desk for a $5 fee. Alumni cannot borrow textbooks on reserve or equipment. Note that access to resource sharing services and off-campus access to subscription databases are not available to alumni.
Library cards must be renewed annually, but there is no charge for renewal.

Computer Access
"Library Quick Search" stations provide all visitors access to the library catalog, licensed databases, and free educational and government sites (domains .edu and .gov, respectively), but block access to most commercial sites.
Visiting Scholar Station
For qualifying guests who do not have their own device to access the guest WiFi, a Visiting Scholar pass is available to alumni, which can be used at a station on the first floor. The Visiting Scholar station provides access to the Internet and licensed library databases. Apply at the front desk in the library lobby.
Limitations
- Printing is only available to current Cal Poly Humboldt students, staff, and faculty and Emeritus staff and faculty.
- The Visiting Scholar pass is valid for six months and provides two hours of continuous or non-continuous use every 24 hours.
- When computer stations are in high demand, priority use of the "Visiting Scholar" station is given to current Cal Poly Humboldt students, faculty, and staff.
Support Your Local Public Library!
The Humboldt County Public Library system provides access to computers with word processing and other useful software. HCPL also provides access to printing for a small fee.
Database Access
On-Campus
The library subscribes to scholarly databases that provide access to journals, ebooks, and other online materials.
Access to online databases is available on campus on personal devices connected to the campus guest wireless network. Online databases can also be accessed using the library “Quick Search” computers. No login is required, but access is restricted to library resources and many websites and Internet resources, including online email clients, is blocked at these computers.
Off-Campus
Off-campus access to these online databases and resources are only available to current Cal Poly Humboldt students, staff, and faculty (including Emeritus staff and faculty).
Open Access Databases
The Library maintains a listing of high quality open access databases that are available to everyone on- or off-campus. These open access resources are freely available to everyone and include high quality and authoritative scholarly research and related resources.
Events
In addition to presentations and poetry readings that are scheduled throughout the year, the Cal Poly Humboldt Library hosts annual events that everyone is invited to attend and participate.
Each fall, when classes start, there is a Welcome Back Open House, where everyone can be introduced to the services and features that the Library offers.
In February, The Cal Poly Humboldt Authors Celebration in the Authors Hall honors Cal Poly Humboldt authors for their scholarship and creative work. Any member of the Cal Poly Humboldt community, including authors themselves, may submit the names of authors using this form.
ideaFest is a showcase of research and creative projects held on the first Friday of May. More than hundreds of students, faculty, & staff from Cal Poly Humboldt present their research, performances, digital projects, and more! The research may also be published in Humboldt Digital Commons or the ideaFest Journal.
