Accomplishments
Thanks to your generous donations we have accomplished great things in the Library!
3D Digital Herbarium

This first of its type project uses immersive technologies to create interactive 3D models of local flora that help users visualize, identify, and learn about plants, their habitat and life cycles, and more. The images and data are condensed into an easy-to-digest package that’s free and open for anyone to use. Read more at at 3D Digital Herbarium.
The Press at Cal Poly Humboldt

The Press is a digital, open-access, author-friendly, community-focused, student-operated university press that publishes high-quality scholarly, intellectual, and creative works by or in support of our campus community. The Press is dedicated to the Humboldt vision to improve the human condition and our environment by sharing knowledge, connecting communities, and promoting understanding of social, economic, and environmental issues.
Anatomage Table

This interactive 3D anatomy table supports the curriculum of multiple disciplines across campus, and is a fun way to explore and learn. Cal Poly Humboldt Library is the only library in the state with this technology from Anatomage and it is changing the way students learn. For more details, please check out the Humboldt Now article: https://hum.link/healthcare
The Library is better able to support learners and community thanks to your continued generosity and support.
Special Collections Reading Room

The Special Collections Reading Room was opened March 1, 2018, and is a dynamic research space where students, campus, and community members can come together to foster a greater understanding of the history, people, and culture of Humboldt County through the many collections and archives.
"I had a clear goal for my transfer year - I took Foreign Relations and the Library Scholar internship. Working with local history gave me a path to a different career that I haven’t thought about before. Library Sciences has become a Plan B for my History degree. Maybe I wasn’t looking, but I definitely found it."
--Jorge Ambriz, Spring '16
Humboldt Scholars Lab

The Cal Poly Humboldt Scholars Lab is a hub for innovation. Everyone’s an expert at something. How are you going to share your expertise with the world? Collaborate on creating digital projects, 3D printed objects, publishing and website development, and more. The Cal Poly Humboldt Library opened Humboldt Scholars Lab October 24, 2016, as an innovative hub for research and scholarship on campus and welcomes everyone interested in advanced research pursuits.
This innovative space on the third floor is a place of conversation and collaboration for Cal Poly Humboldt students, faculty, staff, and community in advanced studies in primary source research, GIS, digital humanities, and scholarship. This is a lab to explore technology, research, and scholarship; to advance work in digital humanities or science projects, geospatial information projects, research data services and visualization, and digital scholarship; and to share expertise with others doing similar scholarly pursuits.
Students and faculty from across a variety of disciplines are provided with technology and training to partner on digital projects with a focus on the digital humanities, geospatial information, and innovative creations. The Humboldt Scholars Lab is a place dedicated to foster collaboration between Cal Poly Humboldt students and faculty in advanced studies or digital humanities and scholarship projects that require consultation, planning, and technology. Conversations about research interests and collaborations on digital humanities or science projects, geospatial information projects, digital scholarship, and research data services are developed in the Scholars Lab and shared with the research community.
Collaboration Stations

Collaborative work spaces support the development of key skills such a problem solving, teamwork, and effective communication. They have become very popular with students.
"We have been coming here since last semester. This is our spot! It leads to better communication because everyone can see what is going on (rather than looking over each other’s shoulders) and give input. We are Chemistry and Physics majors, but we don’t have keycards for the Chemistry computer lab, so this space is ideal for us."
--Chloe Goings (Physics), Taylor Team (Geology) and David Poplin (Chemistry)
Audio Booths

The new audio booths on the first floor of the Library are sound-dampening privacy spaces for calls, telehealth appointments, Zoom meetings, or even sound recording. Library 120, located across from the large display case, is an accessible private space as the alternative to the booths.
The audio booths are open to students, staff, and faculty for two hours at a time, and are fully enclosed for privacy. Desk heights and lighting are adjustable, ventilation cycles fresh air, and outlets are available.
