Can't walk, bike or bus to campus? Carpooling is a great way to save money on gas, parking and vehicle maintenance costs while reducing your environmental impact! The RideMatch Network connects you with others living nearby who are also interested in sharing rides to/from campus. It's FREE to participate!

And if you carpool...
If you have 3 or more people in your car (2 if that is the car's maximum capacity) each day, stop by the drive-up window at the Transportation & Parking Services office on Rossow St between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m., show your Humboldt General or Staff parking permit, and receive a Carpool Preferential Parking Permit for the day. These permits allow you to park in designated Carpool Parking Spaces in the G11 parking lot.
New to riding the bus? Looking for a companion to ride the bus with? Bus Buddies help each other by riding together to campus and other destination, finding bus stops, swiping their JackPass (you campus ID is a free transit pass for students, discounted for faculty/staff), planning trips and more.

Neutralize the Emissions from your Commute!
Want to reduce your carbon footprint? Taking steps like driving alone less, or switching from a car to an e-bike, or riding the bus are the best places to start.
But there may still be unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions from your commute, so offsetting those hard-to-abate emissions is a pragmatic and instant way to take ownership of your personal contribution to the climate crisis.
Carbon offsets - also known as carbon credits - are certificates representing the removal of one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent, which can be bought and sold to transfer climate benefits between entities while in turn helping fund reforestation and other GHG reduction projects.
The average single occupant vehicle driver emits roughly two metric tons of greenhouse gases annually commuting to and from the university.
Steps for Offsetting Emissions from your Commute and other Activities
Step 1: Use the Commuter Cost & Carbon Calculator to estimate emissions from your commute. Or try this Carbon Footprint Calculator for other activities.
Step 2: Fill out and turn in the Arcata Community Forest Carbon Offsets Purchase Form along with payment. One carbon credit will offset one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent. The City of Arcata will send you a certificate of verification.
There are many organizations that sell or broker verified carbon credits, but by purchasing offsets from the Arcata Community Forest, you are also supporting a local resource that offers research and recreational opportunities for our campus community!
