Recreation and Wellness Center

The Outdoor Adventures office located in the Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC) is your one stop shop for all things adventure in Humboldt County! This location serves as the launching point for most of our guided backpacking, hiking, whitewater rafting, and other inland adventures.

Students as well as members of the community are encouraged to come by and learn about all things outdoor recreation that Northwestern California has to offer. The RWC also houses the largest outdoor equipment rental inventory on the North Coast. We have most everything you need to get out and start your next adventure!

If you are looking for more water based adventures check out our other location the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.

Explore Upcoming Courses and Trips

Our trips and courses are planned on a semesterly basis. If you don't see something for the sport you're interested check back in the future and we will have more adventures posted.

Courses vs. Trips — What’s the Difference?

Courses are built around learning goals. They focus on developing specific skills, understanding how and why things work, and practicing techniques until they start to feel natural. Courses are a good fit if you want to build confidence, improve technical ability, or prepare to explore independently.

Trips focus on safely enjoying time in the outdoors with guidance from experienced guides. Participants learn and apply essential safety skills—like proper equipment and understanding local conditions but, spend more time exploring and recreating than drilling techniques or developing hard skills.

In both cases, safety isn’t an add-on. Whether you’re in a course or a program, you’ll be actively learning and practicing how to recreate safely in real conditions outdoors.
