Marina Toroni

First Year Practicum Student

Hello! I’m Marina Toroni (she/they), a first-year trainee in the Counseling Psychology program here at Cal Poly Humboldt. I’ve called Humboldt home for five years, earning my B.A. in Psychology, working in social work, community behavioral health and school-based settings.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. I am interested in integrating trauma-focused care with elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients build safety, deepen connection, and move toward value aligned change. I have experience working with children, parents, and adults navigating a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I believe a strong therapeutic alliance grounded in trust and safety is the foundation of healing.

"We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed" - Carl Rogers

Outside the therapy room, I enjoy reading, spending time in nature, relaxing with my cats, and baking. I welcome you to bring your concerns, hopes, goals, and curiosities into our work together.
