Continuing Students Housing Options

Planning Ahead for Fall 2026

In the spring, continuing students have the opportunity to apply to live in the residence halls for the next academic year. In order to be eligible to live in the residence halls, you must:

  • Have a positive student conduct record
  • Submit your online application and pay the $100 nonrefundable application fee. The $100 will be applied to the housing and meal plan charges, unless the application is cancelled where the application fee will be forfeited.
  • Have your 2025-2026 residence hall room & meal plan fees paid in full.

When to Apply

The 2026-2027 Academic Year Housing application opens on February 3 at 11AM. At that time you will be able to complete most of your application, except for the final agreement page.

The housing application will fully open for continuing students on February 19-20 at 9AM, allowing you to complete your submission. To help manage portal traffic, submission times are divided by last name:

  • Students with last names A-L: May submit their application starting February 19 at 9AM.
  • Students with last names M-Z: May submit their application starting February 20 at 9AM.

Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis, determined by the date and time your completed application is submitted. Applications submitted on Feb. 19 (A-L) and Feb. 20 (M-Z) will both be considered as received on the first day. Each application will be time stamped based on the exact time of submission.

Continuing students who receive a room selection time will have the opportunity to select housing for the upcoming academic year in College Creek, Creekview, Cypress, or Hinarr Hu Moulik.

Room Selection & Wait List Notification

Continuing students who receive a room selection time will have the opportunity to select housing for the upcoming academic year in College Creek, Creekview, Cypress, or Hinarr Hu Moulik.

On March 26, you will be notified by email of your room selection time or waitlist status. If you receive a room selection time, it will also appear in your myHousing portal. To view it, log in, open the Academic Year application you completed, and select the Room Selection option.

If you do not receive a room selection timeslot, you will be placed on the waitlist or marked as guaranteed. Please note that students on the waitlist are not guaranteed a space in the residence halls until they receive either a guarantee of assignment or a room assignment email.

If you are assigned from the waitlist, placement will be made into any available space as it becomes open.

Online Room Selection

Online room selection will begin on April 8. Continuing students who receive a room selection time will have the opportunity to choose housing for the next academic year in Hinarr Hu Moulik, Cypress, College Creek, or Creekview.

If you are unavailable during your assigned selection time, you may still select a room any time after your time slot opens, up until 12PM on April 13, when online room selection closes.

After April 13, any student wishing to change their room or move to another area must submit a Room Change Request, located under Forms in the myHousing portal.

Please note: If you receive a room selection time but do not go online to select a room, the Housing Office will assign you to a space.

Same Room Request

Not all rooms are automatically available for reassignment. However, if you currently live in College Creek, Cypress, or Creekview, you may request to return to your same room for the next academic year.

Continuing students who receive a room selection timeslot will have the option to request a Room Renewal from the  Application in your myHousing portal.

If you change your mind after requesting your same room, you can cancel the reservation and choose another space during your selection time. Please note, once canceled, your previous room becomes available for others to select.

Select Your Roommate or Fill an Apartment with Your Friends

After room selection times and waitlist notifications are sent out on March 26, continuing students can form roommate groups of 2 to 6 members to fill an apartment or suite. Groups may be coed but must include only continuing students who have received room selection times.

How Do Roommate Groups Work?

First, decide who will be the group leader. Choose carefully! The leader will create the group, give it a name and password, and will be responsible for making room assignments during the room selection period.

The leader can add members using their Humboldt ID numbers, or individuals can join the group themselves through their housing application by entering the group name and password.

When it’s time to select rooms, the group leader assigns all members to rooms and should assign themselves last.

The group leader can use the best room selection time assigned to anyone in the group. The leader can assign rooms for all group members, but once you’ve been assigned, only you can cancel or change your own room reservation.

If you decide to change your room, you may cancel your reservation and select a new room online until April 13 at 12PM.

Mixed Gender and Gender Inclusive Housing

Mixed Gender apartments

Mixed gender apartments are available in College Creek, Creekview, Cypress, and Hinarr Hu Moulik. These areas may include residents of any gender living on the same floor, suite, or apartment. Bedrooms remain single gender, while shared common areas are mixed gender spaces.

Gender inclusive apartments

Each housing community offers a limited number of gender-inclusive rooms for students who identify as transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, gender fluid, or another non-cisgender identity. These rooms are not assigned by gender and are available to students who request this option on their housing application.

Gender inclusive bedrooms allow roommates of any gender identity to share the same room.

Meal Plans

Starting in Fall 2025, meal plans will be required in all university housing. However as an exception, current residents that live on campus for 2024-2025, will not be required to have a meal plan in Cypress or College Creek for the rest of their time living on-campus. All other university housing areas will require meal plans.

FAQs

The $100 housing application fee is NOT an additional cost to students. It is treated as an initial deposit, and is credited towards housing and meal plan charges unless the application is canceled.

It is really all about better serving students who choose to live in campus housing. The application fee allows us to better predict how many students truly intend to live in campus housing, rather than holding spots for students who likely will not.

Cal Poly Humboldt previously required a housing application fee, but halted the requirement during COVID. Last year, we saw growth in students anxious to know earlier in the process whether they would have a room on campus, and the lack of the fee made it difficult to determine which applicants for housing were most likely to actually attend.

The application fee helps us to ensure that those students who most want and need campus housing have access to it earlier in the assignment process.

We have evaluated our housing availability and will be able to accommodate all students in campus housing who apply for housing in a timely manner, as well as our continuing students who desire to live in campus housing in the 25-26 academic year.
