Gender Inclusive Housing

At Cal Poly Humboldt, our goal is to foster an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming residential community where every student feels at home. Our Gender-Inclusive Housing option is designed to affirm and respect the diversity of gender identity, expression, and lived experience across our campus.

What is Gender-Inclusive Housing?

Gender-Inclusive housing offers students the option to live with roommates and suitemates regardless of gender identity or sex assigned at birth. It is available to all students who voluntarily choose it, whether they are cisgender, transgender, non-binary, gender-queer, or exploring their identity.

Housing Room Assignments & Confidentiality Policy

  • All Humboldt Housing & Residence Life halls, including Living Learning Communities and Theme & Cultural Communities, are open and inclusive to students of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and religious beliefs. As a department, we believe our residents should have equitable access to the learning opportunities we offer.
  • When you are enroll with Humboldt, you will indicate your gender with your Admission paperwork. That gender indicator will carry over into your housing application. If you wish to change your listed gender with Housing & Residence Life, please email housing@humboldt.edu.
  • Roommate pairings are based on roommate preferences indicated in the housing application. Preferences for a gender inclusive room are a priority during roommate pairings. Humboldt prioritizes preference for gender inclusive housing over the other housing preferences.
  • A selection of gender-inclusive rooms in each housing community are available for residents who are comfortable sharing a room or apartment with persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
