Which Housing Group Are You In?

Second-Year Students

These are students in their second year at Humboldt who are required to live on campus as part of the college's housing policy. They have already completed their first year in on-campus housing and are fulfilling their second year housing requirement.

Continuing Students

Continuing students are returning students who have attended the college beyond their first year. They are not required to live on campus but may choose to apply for on-campus housing if they wish to live in the campus community.

When to Apply

The 2026-2027 Academic Year Housing application opens on February 3 at 11AM. At that time you will be able to complete most of your application, except for the final agreement page.

Depending on your student classification, the housing application will open at 9 AM on the following dates:

  • February 19: Second-year students may complete their applications.
  • February 20: Continuing students may complete their applications.

If you are unsure of your classification click here!

Room Selection Notification

On March 26, you will be notified by email of your room selection time. If you receive a room selection time, it will also appear in your myHousing portal. To view it, log in, open the Academic Year application you completed, and select the Room Selection option.

Please note that students on the waitlist are not guaranteed a space in the residence halls until they receive either a guarantee of assignment or a room assignment email.

Online Room Selection

Online room selection begins in April. Students who receive a room selection time can choose housing for the next academic year in the following areas based on their classification:

  • Second-year students: Cypress, College Creek, or Creekview
  • Continuing students: College Creek or Hinarr Hu Moulik

Not sure what classification you are? Click here!

Students will be notified by email of their specific room selection time. If you are unavailable during your assigned time, you may still select a room any time after your time slot opens until online room selection closes.

Please note: If you receive a room selection time but do not go online to select a room, the Housing Office will assign you to a space.

Room With Friends!

Students can choose to form roommate groups of 2 to 6 members to fill an apartment or suite.

  • Second-year students may form groups only with other second-year students.
  • Continuing students may form groups only with other continuing students.

Groups may be coed, as long as all members meet the eligibility requirements and have received a room selection time. Click here to find out what classification you are.

How do roommate groups work?

Start by choosing your group leader. Pick someone organized and reliable, as the leader will be responsible for creating the group and managing room assignments during the room selection period.

The group leader can add members using their Humboldt ID numbers, or students can join a group on their own through the housing application by entering the group name and password.

The group leader can use any room selection time assigned to a group member to select rooms for everyone in the group.

Once you’ve been assigned a room, only you can cancel or change your reservation. If you decide to change your room, you may cancel your reservation and select a new one any time before room selection closes on April 13 at 12 p.m.

Gender Inclusive and Mixed Gender Options

Mixed Gender Apartments

These areas may include students of any gender living together on the same floor, in the same suite, or in the same apartment. Bedrooms remain single gender, while shared common areas are mixed gender spaces. Mixed gender apartments are available in College Creek, Creekview, Cypress, and Hinarr Hu Moulik.

Gender Inclusive Apartments

Each housing area offers a number of gender inclusive rooms for students who identify as transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, gender fluid, or another non-cisgender identity. These bedrooms allow roommates of any gender identity to share the same room. Gender inclusive rooms are available to students who request this option on their housing application.

Cancellation Information

Remember to read your license agreement carefully! The license agreement includes information on cancellation dates, fees and penalties. There is a $100 nonrefundable application fee due when you submit your application. The $100 nonrefundable application fee will be applied to your housing charges due in the fall.

Students who wish to cancel their request to live on-campus must notify the Housing Office by canceling through their myHousing portal or by email of this decision by July 17, 2026. Notifying any other university office does not satisfy your obligation to notify Housing & Residence Life. Such requests that are received by July 17 will be honored; all cancellations will forfeit the nonrefundable application fee of $100. The deadline for canceling your contract without penalties is July 17. Beginning July 18, 2026, requests to cancel will be honored; however, these requests will forfeit the $100 nonrefundable application fee, be charged a $200 cancellation fee and charged a prorated daily penalty fee for each day of notice that is less than the required 30 days.

FAQs

The $100 housing application fee is NOT an additional cost to students. It is treated as an initial deposit, and is credited towards housing and meal plan charges unless the application is canceled.

It is really all about better serving students who choose to live in campus housing. The application fee allows us to better predict how many students truly intend to live in campus housing, rather than holding spots for students who likely will not.

Cal Poly Humboldt previously required a housing application fee, but halted the requirement during COVID. Last year, we saw growth in students anxious to know earlier in the process whether they would have a room on campus, and the lack of the fee made it difficult to determine which applicants for housing were most likely to actually attend.

The application fee helps us to ensure that those students who most want and need campus housing have access to it earlier in the assignment process.

We have evaluated our housing availability and will be able to accommodate all students in campus housing who apply for housing in a timely manner, as well as our continuing students who desire to live in campus housing.
