Meet Our Academic Peer Coaches

Academic peer coaches help and guide students to develop their own learning strategies in individual sessions. Coaches help students learn methods to solve problems independently and provide positive feedback. Coaches also help students with their academic skills and study strategies, such as exam preparation, assistance with time management, or communicating with a professor.

Why I became an academic coach: Balancing school, extracurricular activities, work, friends, and self care can feel overwhelming in this university life and I have definitely had those moments of wondering how exactly I was going to do it. Understanding these challenges firsthand, I know how having someone to collaborate with toward reaching goals can encourage us to keep going. I’m excited for the opportunity to partner with students in support of their academic success!

Major: Forestry, Concentration: Wildland Fire Management, Minor: Environmental education and Interpretation
Hobbies: Hiking, reading, plant pressing, dinner parties
Why I became a Coach: I know what it's like to overcommit and feel like you’re drowning in work. I found a way out of the burn out pit and it's so much brighter on the other side. Work-life balance is difficult to find on your own, but it is attainable. I want others to find this balance so that they can succeed and find joy in all areas of their life.

Major: Environmental Science with a concentration in Education and Interpretation

Hobbies:  I love gardening, playing basketball, journaling, going on hikes, hanging with the fam/friends, and being curious, as there's always so much to learn about!

Why I became an academic coach: As a freshman, I began with 18 units. I quickly realized that my methods of learning from high school were not adequate for university. I then gained knowledge from school resources such as RAMP, my counselor, and peers! Now, several years into my undergrad, I have grown so much with skills and techniques to be a better student, all while taking care of myself (most importantly). I would love to continue to grow and share these useful approaches to learning!

Major: Environmental Science (Ecological Restoration), Botany Minor

Hobbies:  Making art, cooking, baking, being on the water

Why I became an academic coach: My whole family has worked in education in some capacity, and I was raised with a high priority on learning. I think it is a skill which opens a lot of paths and leads to a lot of development, and I would love to be able to help others and grow at the same time. Students are under a lot of pressure to balance school with everything else. And I would love to help limit as much of that stress as I can.

Major: Psychology, Dance

Hobbies:  Reading, Hiking/Visiting National Parks, Video games, Folklorico/dancing

Why I became an academic coach: I love learning about new academic strategies and sharing them with other people. Being a college student can be pretty difficult balancing all the responsibilities we have, and it can be very helpful to have someone there to support you through it. It’s helpful to know that you’re working with someone who has also experienced burnout, different study habits, difficult courses, etc. I’m excited to support others in their learning journeys.

Major: Sociology and Political Science

Hobbies: I enjoy photography, swimming, baking, watching shows, mind puzzles, and nature!

Why I became an academic coach: In my previous position I assisted first-years on navigating all things college their first year at CPH. The positive growth I witnessed students have over a year shaped the way I viewed student success. It takes a community to support students success and the learning center is one of various programs on campus helping shape student success at CPH. So, I hope to continue my work in supporting students at large, learning from them, and being a positive impact to their academic journey.
