Peer Educator Training
The Learning Center prepares peer educators through a variety of active and collaborative training sessions throughout the year.
The following professional development topics are designed to support new and continuing peer educators in their roles, as well help develop knowledge, skills, and abilities for their future careers.

Introductory I Training Topics (Fall & Spring)
Sessions offered over Zoom the week prior to fall & spring Classes begin:
- Learning Center Program Introduction
- Tutoring 101
- Professionalism
- Ethics
- Title IX and Discrimination, Harassment & Retaliation Prevention
- Campus Assistance, Response, and Engagement (CARE) Services
- Learning Theory
- Mindset
- Metacognition
- Tutor Cycle
- Roleplays & Practice Sessions
Introductory II Training Topics (Fall only)
Sessions offered the last Saturday in September or first Saturday in October:
- Engaging Students through Active Learning
- The Art of Asking Questions Using Bloom's Taxonomy
- Active Listening
- Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and Scaffolding
Advanced Training Topics (Spring only)
Intro to Equitable Practices Session is offered the Friday before classes begin in the spring
- Equitable Practices topics continue throughout the spring semester
Sessions offered the last Saturday in February or first Saturday in March
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Supporting College Reading
- Career Readiness
The Learning Center's Tutor Training is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Tutors can be certified by completing a series of training and activities approved by CRLA.

The Humboldt Learning Center is using an adapted version of the NACE Career Readiness Competencies and the Iowa GROW framework to develop our student employee's professional skills.
