Library Scholar Internships

An Education that Lasts a Lifetime

Library Scholar interns benefit from project-based learning and undergraduate research opportunities that produce hands-on learning in Library Administration, Makerspace, Special Collections, The Press and more. Library Scholar interns lead projects such as researching and writing for the web, curating exhibits and engagement programs, creating presentations, and text layout and digitization for the Press@Humboldt. Interns are paid and can receive course credit as well as credit for their online productions. Their work results in digital publications shared globally, and the experience transforms lives. We hope you’ll consider joining other donors and help with our fundraising needs. A donation of $500 will support one Library Scholar Intern. Consider creating a named endowment for $30,000 which will pay one intern each semester forever, or support a particular project or discipline of your interest.

Interested in a Library internship? Complete our interest form and tell us what you'd like to learn, create, or explore.

What would I work on?
You might research and share Humboldt’s history, create a digital exhibit, work with rare materials, or contribute to a publishing or technology project. Every project is different, so there’s room to explore what interests you.

Are Library Scholar internships paid?
Yes! Our Library Scholar internships are paid. Some interns may also be able to earn course credit; check with us about the details for a specific project.

Who can apply?
Our internship are opportunities for Cal Poly Humboldt students. We encourage any major or class-year to apply, so tell us what you’re interested in and ask about the qualifications for current projects.

How do I get started?
Fill out our Library Scholar Internship interest form and tell us what you’d like to learn, create, or explore. We’ll help you find out about current opportunities and next steps.

What will I gain from the experience?
You’ll take part in a real project, build practical skills, and may create work to share in a portfolio. Past interns have contributed to digital exhibits, publications, research, and student-created tools.

Do I need library or archives experience already?
Not necessarily. We welcome students with or without library experience for our student positions. Requirements can vary by internship, so ask us about the project you’re interested in.

What areas of the Library could I explore?
Projects have included Special Collections, publishing with the Press@Humboldt, digital media, scholarly communication, instruction, and the Innovation Hub. Let us know which areas catch your interest.

Where can I see what past interns have created?
Take a look at our Outstanding Students & Projects page. You’ll find examples of digital exhibits, archival projects, publications, and more - and maybe an idea for your own project.
