Services for Faculty
Information Literacy Instruction
Work with a librarian to design the best level of instruction for your course:
- Basic research skills introduction
- Course-integrated instruction
- Special topics workshops
While some library instruction can be conducted in a one-time class meeting, librarians are available to meet with your class over multiple sessions throughout the semester/research process. All library instruction must be contextualized with a specific assignment the students will be completing for the course.
Librarians will work with faculty to develop Research Guides as well as instructional materials for use in face-to-face or online/hybrid courses. We welcome faculty feedback on our guides and would love to collaborate on making updates and creating new guides.
Please use this form to request librarian assistance in collaborating on classroom instruction, integrating library resources into Canvas, using primary source material in your course, using Zotero, and providing Library instruction. A wide range of asynchronous Canvas SkillShops are available for you to integrate into your course.
Textbooks & Course Reserves
Request or submit course materials for your classes using the Course Reserves Request form. Instructors can use InterLibrary Loan to request textbook chapters/sections that meet fair use copyright restrictions. The Accessibility Resource Center provides ATI processing of digital documents such as PDFs.
This is a great opportunity to support affordable learning options for your students.
Open Educational Resources (OER) such as open textbooks and lesson plans are a more sustainable way to include content in your course. They can help lower your students' costs and provide a forum for collaboration between colleagues and institutions. By using content that can be adapted and improved upon, you are participating in and contributing to the knowledge base in your discipline.
Visit our OER Guide and the Affordable Learning Solutions link above to find resources for your classes or help us by recommending your favorite. Working on your own OER? Share with us so that we can promote your work!
The CSU's Affordable Learning Solutions Initiative is designed to enable faculty to choose and provide quality educational content that is more affordable for their students.
Workshops
Each semester, the Cal Poly Humboldt Library offers workshops designed to strengthen students' research skills and use of online tools as part of the campus-wide SkillShops program. Faculty and instructors can encourage student attendance at Library workshops, and even offer credit for students that attend a workshop (proof of attendance available to students upon request).
Share the in-person SkillShops Calendar with your students or the Online SkillShops as opportunities for learning. Online SkillShops can also be added as assigments in your Canvas course.
