About the Sponsored Programs Foundation

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Foundation partners with faculty and staff to reduce the complexities associated with the grant process. The office provides guidance in identifying appropriate funding opportunities, developing compliant and competitive proposals, and managing the administrative and logistical requirements of sponsored projects. Through this support, faculty and staff can focus on advancing research, scholarship, creative activity, and programmatic innovation. These efforts generate meaningful impact at Cal Poly Humboldt, within the surrounding community, and on a broader global scale.

We are an auxiliary organization of Cal Poly Humboldt, governed by a Board of Directors. Established in 1952, SPF is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation and is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and Section 23701 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code.

What We Do

SPF provides professional  pre- and post-award grant and contract services to the Cal Poly Humboldt campus community. We administer nearly all externally funded grants and contracts and submit proposals to external funding agencies on behalf of Cal Poly Humboldt. In other words, we help people navigate complicated grant processes by removing barriers so PIs can focus on what matters most.

  • Our Pre-Award Team connects people to funding sources, develops skills, and assists in writing strong applications that help make their passions possible.
  • Our Post-Award Team assists PIs in managing the obligations of their grants in creative and compliant ways.
  • Our Operational Support Team meets people where they are at and connects them to the people or resources they need.
  • Our Compliance Officer helps people navigate and mitigate risks while staying within the boundaries of grant rules and regulations.

Local Research. Global Reach

Our team helps advance research opportunities that directly benefit students, enhancing academic achievement, increasing graduation outcomes, and encouraging continued education. Through these efforts, we aim to ensure students leave Cal Poly Humboldt prepared to excel and proud of where they first began their research journey.
