Institutional Biosafety Committee

What is the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)?

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is a multidisciplinary committee responsible for reviewing and overseeing research and instructional activities involving biological agents and other biohazardous materials. The IBC evaluates proposed work to ensure it complies with applicable federal and state regulations, institutional policies, and recognized biosafety standards, while helping protect laboratory personnel, the campus community, the public, and the environment. The committee also provides guidance to investigators on appropriate containment, risk mitigation, and biosafety practices.
