Scholarship Manager FAQs

The Explore function does not allow for application towards a scholarship, since it is intended for viewing the scholarships only. If you see a scholarship within Explore that you think you are eligible for but cannot find the option to apply for it in your tasks, this may be an award that you were automatically applied to, since it does not require additional action on your part such as a letter of recommendation. 

If it does require an application, and you believe you are eligible, but it still does not appear in your tasks after logging in, please reach out to the Financial Aid Office.

This is up to the donor’s discretion.  Some scholarships already include those with a declared minor. If that is the case, you will be automatically matched with the scholarship, as long as you meet all other eligibility criteria.

Most scholarships require that you have financial need in order to be eligible. Financial need refers to the gap between your Cost of Attendance (COA/budget) and your Student Aid Index (SAI) number. If you must meet financial need to qualify for a scholarship, that means you must have a large enough gap between your Cost of Attendance and your SAI to fit the amount of the award, plus any other aid you are receiving. You would need to have a financial aid application (either FAFSA or CADAA) on file in order for this to be determined.

If you are not able to apply for any scholarships, it is due to the eligibility criteria not being met. Please review the scholarships eligibility criteria. If you are in fact eligible and still unable to apply, please reach out to the Cal Poly Humboldt Financial Aid Office directly.

Awarding decisions are made by the department or donor associated with the scholarship. Most scholarships close for applications on January 31st, and it typically takes at least a few months for decisions to be made. You can check the status of your applications and awards through the scholarship portal, but will be notified by email if awarded. If you are granted a scholarship, this will be added to your financial aid offer. You may not see scholarships on your original aid offer that comes out in Spring, since they may be awarded to you after that time.
